Referral Information for Students

At App State, we are committed to supporting the success and well-being of every student.

As part of this commitment, we have a structured referral process that allows faculty and staff to identify and connect students with the appropriate support services.

There are two primary types of referrals:

  • Academic Referrals, for students who may be struggling academically, falling behind in coursework, or showing signs of disengagement in the classroom.
  • Care and Concern Referrals, for students who may be experiencing personal, emotional, behavioral, or other challenges that could impact their well-being.

Referral Process for Students

If a faculty or staff member submits a referral for you, here's what you can expect:

Review

The referral will be received and reviewed by a staff member. Note: Referrals are reviewed during normal business hours and are not monitored after hours, on weekends, or during official University holidays.

Outreach

A staff member will provide initial contact with you by email to share more information regarding the referral submission. Then, depending on the best course of action, additional outreach will occur as appropriate.

Connection

You will be connected with the appropriate resources and support, based on the reason for the referral.

Support Plan

Together, you and a support staff member may create a short-term plan to help you stay on track and address any ongoing challenges.
